Celebrating World // Zero’s Win at the 2025 Roblox Innovation Awards

At this year’s Roblox Innovation Awards, World // Zero proudly took home Best RPG Experience. We sat down with Nathan and Alex from Twin Atlas to reflect on the award, the challenges of building World // Zero, and what’s next for the game.

1. What was your initial reaction when you found out World // Zero won Best RPG, and what does this recognition mean to the team?

[Alex] I was really surprised given how long we've been building World // Zero! The game has been around for nearly 8 years now, so it was awesome to see our fanbase come together and support the game!

[Nathan] Honestly, I was just super proud of the team. They have done such an incredible job continuing to release content that players want year after year. The team also does such a great job engaging with the community, one of the best in the biz.

2. Looking back, what were some of the biggest challenges in developing World // Zero that made this award feel especially rewarding?

[Alex] World // Zero was an extremely ambitious game, especially by 2018's standards when we launched. We wanted to build an open-world, high fidelity, action MMORPG which has a lot of challenges to stack up against ourselves. The fact that we were able to pull it off and build something that's still impressing players today was an awesome feeling.

3. Any features that you were particularly proud of making when working on World // Zero?

[Alex] I'm really proud of our custom avatars. When we launched, Roblox still looked very blocky. We wanted to try a fully custom body with an anime-themed head. We went through several iterations of the avatar to make it feel the way we wanted.

[Nathan] I think I’m proud of the recent improvements to modernizing the game. We talked a lot this year about how things felt clunky and not updated. The team has made strides to improve the UX, Combat and FTUX which has up-leveled the game.

4. What’s the most memorable piece of feedback or support you’ve received from a player?

[Alex] We once had someone tell us they loved World // Zero because they got to play it with their niece. I didn't expect our game to be a place that would let families connect across generations like this.

5. What’s your favorite boss in World // Zero?

[Alex] My favorite boss is Cerberus, along with the Volcano Dungeon! I have a lot of memories of working with the team to put this together and I think the dungeon combined with the bossfight at the end is really rewarding to play through.

[Nathan] Vane, and to be honest it's mostly because there are players that hate Vane with an unbelievable passion and I like trolling them.

6. What exciting features or updates can players look forward to now that World // Zero has reached this huge achievement?

[Alex] We're launching a lot of features to modernize the game, such as the overhauled main menu that went out last week! Stay tuned for more upgrades to the game including the UI.

[Nathan] Without revealing too much we are looking at new ways to bring players content on World // Zero and we’ll continue to modernize the game to deliver an experience new players expect. There’s also a lot more to come from the World // Zero IP in 2026… :)

✨ Thank you Alex & Nathan for sharing your thoughts on this! Well that's all we have for you guys for now, with nearly 8 years of history and an incredible community behind it, World // Zero’s win as Best RPG is a celebration of not just the Twin Atlas team’s hard work, but the players who have adventured through its worlds! Thank you all for your support and stay tuned for more in the future!
